What is it?
In TEER the two leaflets of a leaking valve are clipped together (e.g. MitraClip, TriClip). In TTVR a complete new valve is implanted in the tricuspid position via the femoral vein (e.g. EVOQUE).
Who needs it?
Patients with severe symptomatic mitral or tricuspid regurgitation despite optimal medical therapy who are at high surgical risk.
How is it done?
Performed under general anaesthesia with transoesophageal echo (TEE) guidance. The catheter enters the heart from the groin vein and the valve is repaired or replaced.
Before the procedure
Transthoracic and transoesophageal echo, cardiac CT and Heart Team evaluation.
After & recovery
Short hospital stay (usually a few days), gradual relief of breathlessness and swelling, echo follow-up.
Risks & safety
Access-site complications, bleeding, rhythm disturbances and, for TTVR, need for anticoagulation; careful patient selection is the key to success.
Frequently asked questions
TEER or TTVR?
It depends on valve anatomy; the Heart Team chooses based on echo and CT.
Are these available in Iran?
Availability of some devices depends on import and approvals; we assess treatment in Iran or international referral during consultation.
